Week 2

Although I didn’t have a lot of time to spend birding this week, I did manage to scrape up a few nice additions to both my work and home circles but am still lacking on a lot of the common birds.

Salem Circle

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker – a nice relatively rare bird during the winter months, seen at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in North Salem. The same place, nearly the same date, and the same tree branch just a year ago, but photos show them being different birds! In fact, I have more Dec-Jan records of YBSS than any other months in Salem.

Red-winged Blackbird
Common Raven

I picked up a few common birds today including Carolina Wren and Brown Creeper. I also picked up at bunch of points for the January challenge which I still need to tally, but some of my favorite hotspots including World End Pond are really slacking during the winter months.

Plaistow Circle

Didn’t get to do any birding this weekend, but I was able to add an out-of-season American Kestrel in Haverhill. This was just outside of my Salem circle as well, and fell just outside the ‘overlap’ of the circles.
